Oatmeal Raisin/Chocolate Chunk Cookies

From Quaker Oats, not my creation.
NOTE: I've had rave reviews of these cookies, but I've only ever tried this recipe with "quick" oatmeal, not the regular old kind, so I don't know how well it will work.

need:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
3 cups oatmeal, uncooked (Quaker Oats suggests "quick" or "old fashioned")
1 cup raisins or chocolate chunks (or both)

do:

1. Beat together butter and sugars until creamy.
2. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
3. Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; mix well.
4. Stir in oats and raisins or chocolate; mix well.
5. Drop by the tablespoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
6. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350F or until golden brown.
7. Let cool for at least 1 minute on the cookie sheet, then remove to a cooling rack. Makes about 4 dozen.
