do:
1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
2. Add shortening and cut it into the dry ingredients with a pastry blender or two knives until the whole mixture resembles coarse corn meal.
3. Stir enough milk in with a fork to make a soft dough, or until the mixture leaves the sides of the bowl and follows the fork. Stir until the flour disappears and the mixture thickens.
4. On a floured surface, knead the dough lightly for about 30 seconds.
5. Pat or roll the dough out until it is 1/4 to 1/2 and inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter (or the rim of a cup) into circles or use a floured knife to make any design.
6. Preheat the oven to 425F and bake on an ungreased pan for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Burnt biscuits aren't very tasty, so be watchful. Constant vigilance!
For a nice strawberry sauce to go with these biscuits, cut the tops off of strawberries (or simply thaw them, if that is the case), cut the larger ones in pieces, and mix some sugar with them in a bowl (I use from 1/2 to 1 cup of sugar). Squished strawberries make a nice juice to complement the whole ones, so wield that mixing fork with passion.
